June 2009 marks the start of my second year on smugmug, so I thought it was time for a new profile.

My name is Elizabeth Jacob. I live in northwest Ohio, and spend a significant amount of time in southeast Michigan. I travel when I can, and love traveling vicariously through the photos of others.

When I began this adventure of joining a community of like-minded passionate photographers, I had no specific goals. It was curiosity more than anything that motivated me. I hoped to find out whether my efforts would find a larger audience beyond friends and family. And to find out whether I could improve my own photography by observing closely the works of others, and by receiving feedback for my own pictures. The curiosity is still there.

I have discovered the works of some really amazing photographers in the course of the past year, and have been the beneficiary of the warm, generous comments of people whose own work I admire tremendously. My thanks go out to each person who has taken the time to view, “thumb”, or comment on my efforts. One thing I have learned this past year is that I’m still a very poor judge of which of my pictures will appeal to the general viewing public. That could have several explanations, but I’ll just keep on photographing the things that interest me or move me, and hope that a few of you out there will like what I post.

In the coming weeks I hope to have completed an expanded gallery of my own deeply personal favorite photos, along with descriptions of why they’re my favorites…a replacement for the abbreviated and sadly neglected current “About Me” gallery.

I have decided to continue to make my pictures available for downloading, so I’ll repeat what I wrote in my original profile:
