Sandscapes : Over the years I've taken enough pictures of details of sand, depicting how the forces of wind and water sculpt it and even paint it with the different colors of sand grains, that I felt it was time to put them into their own gallery. Some of the images are 'original' to this gallery, while others have been collected from various other galleries. Most, but not all of the pictures are close-ups. It's just a matter of what scale and perspective were needed to tell the story. Sand is a unique medium. It has both solid and liquid or fluid properties. Left undisturbed, a sandscape is stable and can last forever. More typically, though, these landscapes in miniature are ephemeral. Even ones that last for a number of hours can change vastly in their appearance as the qualities of light and shadow change. A secondary aspect of this to me fascinating subject is the great range of colors, compositions, and textures to be found in sand. So far, I'm sure I've only scratched the surface of the topic. So many beaches, so little time!

Found at the beach or shore : I have decided I need a separate gallery for miscellaneous closeups of all the little things that catch my eye when I'm at the shore of various bodies of waters. This includes shells, pebbles, micro-landscapes of rock or sand, animal tracks, flora and fauna especially if washed ashore, various other flotsam. Water itself, though an agent in depositing and arranging these things, plays a minimal role in most of the images.

Water Meets the Shore : This is a gallery for pictures that show details of all the ways that water behaves in an ocean environment. Most are of the interaction between water and the shore, whether it be a sandy beach or a rocky coastline. These are not landscapes or seascapes, though the delineation between candidates for this gallery and the 'Seascapes' gallery isn't always easy to make. The focus is on the medium, water. I have now moved the closeups of things, animate and inanimate, found at the coast to a new gallery, 'Found at the beach...', http://arctangent.smugmug.com/Nature/Found-at-the-beach-or-shore/17030947_PmKr7v. Things like shells, tidepool creatures, flotsam and jetsam, abstracts made by wind and tide in the sand, etc.
