Witch Hazel (Hamamelis mollis 'Goldcrest'). When this blooms, the gold you see inside the buds will unfurl into long narrow crinkled petals. February 1, 2010.
Spring-blooming witch hazel. Witch hazel (genus Hamamelis) comes in a variety of wild species and nursery cultivars, including some hybrids. This was blooming in from of the conservatory of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens, but I didn't see a tag for it. March 11, 2010.
A hybrid witch hazel (Hamamelis x intermedia), blooming at the Toledo Botanical Garden. (The sign is for a different plant!) I'm sorry to say that this plant doesn't look entirely healthy, and is perhaps not completely hardy in Toledo's climate zone. March 19, 2010.
