New ice along the river.
Like a laboratory for nature experimenting with modes of ice formation.

River ice, displaying a variety of shapes and growth patterns. The field of view is several inches across, so the individual regions of ice in the mosaic are fairly coarse.

At the edge of the ice sheet.

Note the long needles of ice now forming atop the original ice sheet, as nearly freezing water continues to lap up over it.
There is a constant combat on the river this time of year between the forces of ice formation and ice destruction. The margins are always under attack, ever-changing.

I decided to leave the blue cast, rather than color correct the picture. I sometimes just like the effect, the mood of the blue.
