Maple leaves against the sky.  Although the leaves strongly resemble Sweet Gum, the winged seedpods identify this as a maple, possibly some kind of ornamental Japanese maple.

When I looked closely at this picture, I was surprised at how many different trees and shrubs were represented among the collected leaves.

Mary Jane Thurston State Park was nearly deserted on this weekday morning in early November.  A grove of maple trees still had enough leaves to be interesting.  If you look closely, you can see the blurs of a few of them tumbling through the air.
