Images of everything associated with the season.

Note added March 1, 2009: Once each fall season is long gone and interest has waned, I will move images of certain subjects to more specialized galleries. For example, pictures of fruit, nuts, berries, and some of the details of foliage.

A few leaves on the water. A few more still on the trees.

Reflections in the Gilead Canal at Grand Rapids, Ohio.
Pale, almost pink euonymus leaves mingling with fallen redbud leaves. It interested me that a darker red color was visible along the veins on the back of the redbud leaf.
A redbud leaf, fallen upright in the grass, with sun shining through it and transforming it into a screen for shadows of blades of grass.
Persimmon tree with fruit.

They make me think of Christmas tree ornaments hanging from the branches.
Persimmon fruit on the tree.

I love the dusty 'bloom' these fruits acquire, like over-sized grapes or miniature fuzzless apricots.
Showing off.

A number of maples (red maples or sugar maples, I'm not sure which) have clung to their full cloaks of fiery foliage long after their neighbors are bare and leafless. It's almost as if the red maples are showing off.

Where they came from, and where they ended up.

In all probability, the overhanging maple tree is the one that dropped these leaves into the calm waters along the banks of the Maumee River.

I don't know the cause of the circular ripples. More likely fish or bugs than falling leaves.
Diaspora.

In the shallows along the left bank of the Maumee River at Providence Park.

A partially submerged tree trunk captures falling leaves, but doesn't keep them long. Wind and current move them along.
Still toxic? I have a feeling the answer is 'Yes'.

Leaves of three ... a sprig of poison ivy beginning to die down for the winter. These woods along the Maumee River are rife with poison ivy. My understanding is that enough of the irritating oils remain, even through the winter, that especially sensitive persons (such as myself) should still avoid the plant.
