Limbscapes : Images in which the shapes, arrangements, patterns of tree limbs form key elements of the composition. The nature of such images lends itself to experimentation on my part with various post-processing techniques. I hope you'll be tolerant of this self-indulgence. I like to have a bit of fun with my photography.

Trees - leaf details and foliage : Leaves...everything from details of a single leaf to masses of foliage or young leaf buds. The emphasis is on the foliage, not the entire tree. In the case of fall foliage, I'll put some of the images of foliage details in this gallery, and leave others in the seasonal gallery (see the sub-category under 'Nature' called 'Four Seasons'). The choice will be subjective. I've reordered them by date taken, descending, so you can see the (reverse) progression through each year.

Trees in winter : Trees, whole or in part, from bare-limbed to laden with snow. These are pictures that are meant to show how winter changes the appearance of trees, their branches, trunks, roots, fruits and seeds, or how it transforms their interaction with their surroundings. They must be images that could only be made in winter, and whose main focus is trees, or a single tree, or some detail of a tree.

Perfectly Imperfect - leaf closeups : Few leaves on trees or shrubs make it through an entire growing season without suffering attacks from various sources. Interesting patterns of coloration, bleaching, cell loss, tissue loss, etc. can result. Some leaves simply develop abnormal or anomalous shapes or features. I've decided to collect some of these (to me, at least) curiosities in a rogue's gallery of portraits of damaged or defective leaves. To me these leaves can be much more interesting than healthy and normal ones. These aren't images of leaves simply suffering the seasonal changes that autumn and winter bring, although they will often be taken toward the end of a season. For lack of a better place to put them, I've added pictures of foliage of plants that aren't trees or shrubs but which otherwise qualify for inclusion to the gallery.

Trees & shrubs - blossoms : Blossoms of shrubs and trees, either close up or entire branches or trees, etc. Note added May 2012. Since I have created a separate gallery for all things (foliage, flowers, fruit, etc.) about shrubs (in the Cyber Arboretum sub-category), and other galleries for ornamental fruit trees, dogwoods, magnolias, etc. many of the photos in this gallery will be duplicates, i.e. will have been collected from that new gallery, or will be collected from this gallery to the new one. I'll try to keep an updated representative sample of blossom pictures here, but it won't be complete.
