Landscape > arctangent  > Places - Far > Bryce Canyon part 1 - Bryce Point
Pictures from Bryce Point, one of the major overlooks at Bryce Canyon National Park.

I have decided to create separate galleries for each part of the park that I photographed, at least until I finish editing the photos. Once I finish the pictures for a particular area, I'll move them out of the 'recent uploads' category into a separate gallery in the 'Places - Far' category.

Here is a link to the current 'recent' gallery for Bryce Canyon. http://arctangent.smugmug.com/gallery/8754804_M4crW#489950876_FEztZ

arctangent > Bryce Canyon Airport, with weather moving through.

Along the highway that runs along the north end of Bryce Canyon NP there is a pullout and interpretive sign about Bryce Canyon airport. This is taken from that viewpoint.

arctangent > Bryce Point, in the afternoon, with rain and snow all around the area, but not there.

My first real view, and first photo of Bryce Canyon. For that reason, if no other, it is special to me, because Bryce Canyon NP is a very, very special place.

arctangent > View to the northeast from Bryce Point.

The park itself is fairly small, but the roads through it and the overlooks are all at the top, looking down into the incredible carved rock formations and looking out at vast landscapes that are in their own way as interesting as the park.

On this afternoon, low clouds cast ever changing shadows onto the landscape and created wonderful cloudscapes to add to the more permanent spectacle of the rocks and trees.

arctangent > Trail heads at Bryce Point.

I don't know the story behind the name of "Hat Shop Trail". Because of the windiness in the park while we were there, I like to think it's a humorous reference to the number of hikers who lose their hats along the trail. If you know differently, please don't disillusion me!

Just telling which overlook you're at doesn't really specifiy the view, since typically there are vistas of 180 degrees or more, and the view can change dramatically as you walk along the rim trail in either direction from the parking area.

The distant land forms really are tilted as you see them here.
