arctangent  > Places - Near > Ann Arbor area parks > Geddes Dam connecting Gallup and Parker Mill County Parks
This gallery is for pictures taken along a short stretch of the Huron River, from just above the Geddes Dam to the footbridge over the river a little below the dam. Two parking lots give access to this area on either side of Old Dixboro Road on the south bank of the river. The area is a link between Gallup Park (upstream, south bank only at this point) and Parker Mill County Park (downstream, north bank). For reasons which I hope will be clear to the viewer, I take a lot of pictures here. I decided to give the area its own gallery.

One type of picture I especially love to take at this locale is close-ups of reflections of the variety of structures (dams, bridges, railings, trees) and of shallow water flowing over stones at the river's edge. These will appear either in some of my Nature/Water galleries or in their own separate gallery ( http://arctangent.smugmug.com/Nature/Water/Under-the-Bridge-Dixboro-Road/19464486_SBxWCk ). This particular gallery will concentrate on wider views that are unique to the location.

The utility shed in front of the maple carries the address (small blue sign) of "10 South Dixboro". The dividing line between N. Dixboro and S. Dixboro Roads is the middle of the Huron River. I wonder if the utility shed ever receives any mail?
Half and half.
I used Picnik to flip and "fix" this picture. I was curious to see whether the reorientation was disorienting (often they are), and was pleasantly surprised with the results.

Unfortunately, having Picnik do these operations always results in a loss of resolution or picture quality. Oh, well.
As the light warms, the day cools.

In the reflection you can see the facing and guard rail of the old Dixboro bridge that looks down on the other side of the dam, where the water comes rushing out of whichever floodgate is open. (There are two pairs of two. Usually only one pair is open.)

(No, I wasn't out in the river when I took this. It just looks that way.)
Straight above.

I liked the way the contrail ran parallel to the reflection of the railing in this shot, and the way it seemed to complete the overall geometry of the composition.
