arctangent  > Places - Near > Ann Arbor area parks > Geddes Dam connecting Gallup and Parker Mill County Parks
This gallery is for pictures taken along a short stretch of the Huron River, from just above the Geddes Dam to the footbridge over the river a little below the dam. Two parking lots give access to this area on either side of Old Dixboro Road on the south bank of the river. The area is a link between Gallup Park (upstream, south bank only at this point) and Parker Mill County Park (downstream, north bank). For reasons which I hope will be clear to the viewer, I take a lot of pictures here. I decided to give the area its own gallery.

One type of picture I especially love to take at this locale is close-ups of reflections of the variety of structures (dams, bridges, railings, trees) and of shallow water flowing over stones at the river's edge. These will appear either in some of my Nature/Water galleries or in their own separate gallery ( http://arctangent.smugmug.com/Nature/Water/Under-the-Bridge-Dixboro-Road/19464486_SBxWCk ). This particular gallery will concentrate on wider views that are unique to the location.

The colors or warning...red and orange...are also the colors of autumn, and blend well with the blue sky and the green needles of the evergreen trees along the banks.

Scene just upstream from the Gallup Park dam at Dixboro Road.

The reflections of the overhead wires reveal the slight...very slight...irregularities in the surface of the water. Such remarkably mirror like conditions on the river are rare.

The new Dixboro Bridge.
I was standing on the old Dixboro Bridge when I took this. The view is of the Huron River, looking downstream. Behind me, just across the bridge, is the Gallup Park dam, and the slow-flowing river as it moves through Gallup Park. This location is one of my favorite ones to visit in the late afternoon, if the sun is out. I think you can see from this shot all the possibilities for color, reflections, textures, patterns, abstract. Plus, it's just a lovely serene scene.

Look down and see up. Reflection in water just upstream from the Dixboro Dam.

On this particular day, the near spillway was closed and the water in the headrace stood calm, riffled only by the breeze and the occasional raindrop.
