This chimney, made from Michigan fieldstone, is all that is left of the house of former neighbor Laura.
Although the building material might seem old-fashioned, arguing for some age to the structure, it is, in fact, a material that is still being used routinely in local construction.

This chimney, made from Michigan fieldstone, is all that is left of the house of former neighbor Laura. The new owners promptly demolished the house after purchasing the property, and seem to have no plans to rebuild on it, which is odd considering the current property values for prime lakefront property these days.

Weeds haven't made as much headway on the lower terrace, but there's a greater accumulation of fallen leaves. Both present an aspect of neglect and melancholy.

A few more years of similar neglect of this paved terrace (Laura's former property), and weeds will have hidden it from view. The house is already gone (except for the chimney).

All that is now left of Laura's house is the old fieldstone chimney and the decorative paving stones of the two terraces (down the hill toward the lake).
There's a Red Admiral butterfly in the shot, if you look for it.

The lilacs were unbelievably fragrant...so nostalgic.

The side yard of one of the neighbors, adjacent to Laura's former lot (not empty)
There were a number to quintessentially spring blooms in the yard, including many seen here: violets, grape hyacinth, hellebore, bleeding hearts, and dogwood. Not seen in this shot, but perfuming the air were several large old-fashioned lilacs, both purple and white.
