Visitors to Zion National Park have a completely different experience from that at neighboring Bryce Canyon NP. Zion is a 'from the bottom up' experience; Bryce Canyon is just the reverse. In order to reach the grand viewpoints in Zion, one must climb up the cliffs, either on trails or by rock climbing, both of which are popular. Our time was limited, as was our energy at this point in a long trip. We confined ourselves to gentle hikes on the valley floor. In other words, the pictures here give a very incomplete idea of what a visit to Zion National Park can be like. Even given these constraints, we loved our time there. I hope you enjoy these 'souvenirs'.

Our first view of water falling over the rock rim into the Lower Pool. I don't know for sure whether the Middle Pool is the source of this water.

This strongly resembles Oregon-grape (Mahonia aquifolium, Berberidaceae), and if such, it is displaced significantly from it's native environment of the mountains of the North American west coast. Perhaps it is a similar Mahonia species.
