D191-2009 Composite
Another bad hair day.

July.
D204-2008 Composition of composites

A mid-range view of the interior of a planting of native prairie wildflowers in SE Michigan. The principle plants in bloom in late July were prairie coneflower, purple coneflower, several varieties of rudbeckia, bergamot or bee-balm, vervain; sweet cicely; Bouncing Bet and the invader, Queen Anne's Lace. The coneflowers and rudbeckia are all composites, hence the title. There was a small amount of native prairie grasses in the planting, but they aren't conspicuous in the photo.

D204-2008 An unidentified rudbeckia
A member of the genus rudbeckia growing in a small plot of urban prairie. It might be orange coneflower (R. fulgida) or more probably showy coneflower (R. speciosa). Since this was a re-established plot of prairie wildflowers, and was probably produced from some commercial mix of seeds, there's no telling whether this is a species that is native to SE Michigan.
