Bloom of a pitcher plant, Family Sarraceniaceae. It's one type of carnivorous plant.
This one is the Yellow Pitcher Plant, Sarracenia alata, which is native to North America.

This isn't the carnivorous part.
Here is a link to a picture of the trap - the carnivorous part - of this plant: http://smu.gs/YDDaKs
An almost red subject for an almost-Valentine's Day post for DailyPhotos.
I hope to have something red to post for tomorrow, and to warm up to that possibility, I chose pink for today.
This is the bloom (not really open yet) of the bromeliad Aechmea mariae-reginae. The pink is, of course, part of the foliage, not part of the flowers. Don't you just love bromeliads?

D109-2012 Mock-Orange with fly.
In fact, this picture is mostly about the fly. It's a live specimen of the species whose carcasses covered so much of the shingles of the boathouse and the timbers of the retaining wall down by the lake. You can see the two ostrich feather-like sensory organs (not sure if, strictly speaking, they're antennae) sticking out of its head. It seems to have a kind of hunchbacked profile. The one thing you can't really see in this shot is the lovely pale rainbow sheen to the wings.
