The old towpath runs along the top of the bank on the far side of the canal. Beyond that a couple hundred feet is the Maumee River. Grand Rapids, Ohio, early November.

arctangent > Public boat launch ramp (right) on the Gilead Canal, Grand Rapids, Ohio. Trees on the banks of the towpath (left) tend to lean out over the canal. Obviously, when the canal was used by larger boats that had to be towed, trees would not have been allowed to grow there.
