Of this species Wikipedia says it is "native to central and eastern China. It has been cultivated in Chinese Buddhist temple gardens since 600 AD."
The tag on this specimen indicate it was planted sometime in the 1960's (the final digit isn't readable).  It was undoubtedly several years old at the time of planting.  So this tree is roughly 50 years old.
