Thanks to those faithful commenters who found my May 4 post of 'Three magnolias and a gazebo' and commented even though I was AWOL from the commenters corps yesterday. I'm afraid I won't be able to comment again today until late, but hope to catch up with all the great posts for the weekend by this evening.

D092-2012 For some, this rough dirt track is the preferred path of descent along the central valley of the Arboretum, at least when it is dry. It carries you down the hill free from joggers and inquisitive and over-friendly dogs for the most part. It eventually connects with more groomed paths, still along the eastern edge of the valley, that descend all the way to the river.

D092-2012 From the top of the Arb, at Geddes Ave., you can easily see across the intervening Huron River Valley to North Campus. The strange looking tower in the distance is the 167 foot tall Ann and Robert H. Lurie Tower, which houses the newer of two grand carillons on the University of Michigan campuses. The older is in Burton Tower on the central campus. Based on Google Maps, Lurie Tower is about 1 1/4 miles from the Geddes Ave entrance, as the crow flies.

Monochrome version of It's a beautiful world; you have only to walk through the open door...

I applied a very pale tint of tan, or sepia, to the BW version created by applying the half-tone filter to the color version.

A gate in the fence that divides the public area of the Demonstration Garden and the private area for grounds workers.

(No, I didn't selectively color the door section. It was painted that way.)

The blaze of forsythia blossoms in bright sun stood out from the shadowed fence and invited me to walk through it. Don't all partially opened doors and gates send the same invitation?
