Looking along one edge of the upper section of the Harper Conifer collection. Some kind of maple, with its keys still festooning its branches, dominates the foreground, upper left. I believe that the thing that interested me when I chose to take this shot was the contrast between the bluish needles on some of the conifers (spruce?) in contrast to the darker greens of others. Trautmann Nordmann Fir Abies nordmanniana 'Trautmann' Family: Pinaceae The cones are borne upright, often near the trunk. Most seemed to have been eaten by critters (birds, squirrels, chipmunks?) It gave them a comical appearance. In this shot you can also see occasional isolated needles sprouting directly from the trunk.
