Pretty as a Postcard. Cape Blanco Lighthouse with cedars
Cape Blanco Lighthouse 05
Cape Blanco Lighthouse, Oregon. Built circa 1870.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The one of Oregon's lighthouses that is the most westerly, the oldest continuously operating, and the highest above the sea (256 ft to the focal plane of the light).
Cape Blanco is near Port Orford, and it is possible that the evergreens growing near the lighthouse are Port Orford cedars. They were abundant in the area at the time the lighthouse and the Hughes House were built, and were considered prime sources for building material. Alas, the species is now in serious decline, even endangered.
