D137-2013 Tall old pink dogwood, probably nearing the end of its life.
This one stands in the northeast corner of the cemetery, not far from the May family vault. If you look closely you can see the broken ends of branches near the top of the tree that were torn away from larger limbs during a bad ice storm this past winter.

Rising even higher into the sky, behind the dogwood, are the upper branches of a venerable redbud tree (its trunk is the one furthest right in this shot).

D137-2013 Looking east along the Laurel Ridge Trail.
Typically only a few rhoodendrons, and none of the azaleas, are in bloom when the redbud trees are at their peak bloom. A few wildflowers are also in bloom along the trail.

Two precocious bloomers.
Rhododendrons along the Laurel Ridge Trail overlook the famous peony gardens (which are weeks from blooming).

DP130-2013 Posted very late May 10; processed ditto.

The rhododendrons are (left, pink) 'Olga Mezitt', and (right, purple) 'Haughty Pink'.

Thanks to all whose comments, stars, and green thumbs pushed my pansies up the chart, even though they were a day late.
Three yellows and a view.
(Left to right, a weeping willow, a forsythia (small), and a magnolia.)

Thanks to those faithful commenters who found my May 4 post of 'Three magnolias and a gazebo' and commented even though I was AWOL from the commenters corps yesterday. I'm afraid I won't be able to comment again today until late, but hope to catch up with all the great posts for the weekend by this evening.
Three magnolias and a gazebo.
The magnolias are, from left to right: (1) A Loebner magnolia, which is a hybrid between M. kobus and M. stellata. This is the white one to the left rear of the gazebo. (2) A saucer magnolia of unidentified type. This is the one with pink and white blossoms which is nearly obscured by the gazebo. (3) A yellow flowered magnolia, the first I've ever seen. No tag for identification. It's blossoms resemble in shape the Chinese Yulan type of magnolia.

(About yellow flowered magnolias. There seem to be a large number of such magnolias. Most seem to be based on a cross between a native American magnolia, M. acuminata and one or another of the Asian magnolias such as M. lilliflora or M. denudata.)
D117-2013 Panorama of the distant green hillside that runs down from Cobblers Knob to Hidden Lake, seen through a screen of trees.
This view is reached by following the mowed path down hill from the last pullout before you reach Cobblers Knob. Hidden Lake is just out of view on the right. If you look closely you can see a bit of the parking lot at the trailheads just beyond the north end of the lake.

Water tower at Plymouth and Nixon in northeast Ann Arbor.
I wanted to revisit this structure and shoot it from some different angles, and with a different background of clouds from my earlier (July 2008) post.

The paint scheme was designed by University of Michigan student Michael Evashevski as a submission to a contest.
