Torchiere
Don't you just love the color combination Mother Nature chose for the blooms of this cactus with that electric green 'lightbulb'? For the naturally curious, each bloom is dainty, just a couple of inches, top to bottom.

Repeat after me...

I chose this shot for its repeat pattern and limited color palette. It wasn't well focused and was shot in flat light, so I added a couple of filters to give it a little more visual interest.

Bear's Breeches, aka Oyster Plant, Acanthus mollis
Family Acanthaceae . . . Native to the Mediterranean...A tender perennial, hardy outdoors only in the warmer climate or growing zones in the USA, but potentially invasive where it is hardy.
Acanthus flowers typically have thorns on their sepals (that's what 'acanthus' means), so beware when handling.

Thanks so much to all of you who left comments for yesterday's shot of a cemetery angel even when I wasn't able to comment myself. Each one was heartily appreciated.
Open arms.
I waited for a puff of wind to force open the petals of this bloom. Poppy blossoms are amazingly flexible, and continuously rearrange themselves in a beautiful ballet in response to even slight breezes.

Look what I found.

A small boy and his mom were on the trail ahead of me. They stopped at a trailside bench. A chipmunk came out with a "feed me or I'm out of here" attitude, then scuttled away into the undergrowth. The boy tried to find it, but then became more interested in stuff lying around in the dirt.

Humble thanks for all the support I've received for my recent posts. Yesterday's shot of columbines was a personal favorite, so I'm especially glad so many of you liked it as well. I've learned over the years that pictures that are my own favorites aren't always the most popular with others. I start each new day in the DailyPhotos community with zero expectations, and just take what the day brings!
Busy visitor.
This late into the blooming season and we are just now beginning to see detectable numbers of pollinating insects. GOKY.

Once again I have been taken by complete surprise by the response to one of my posts to the Dailies. Big, big thanks to all who took the time to visit yesterday's post of the odd masonry.
