Crab apple 'blossom' of a different kind.
Playing around with a photo of a detail of a crab apple tree stump. This is just about the simplest mosaic you can imagine, namely the original image cropped to a square, and flipped in appropriate ways to be able to assemble the resulting set into a symmetric pattern.

(My guess for why completely healthy trees were cut down during the past year is that they just didn't belong growing on the tall grass prairie restoration that Dow Prairie is supposed to represent.)
Wave hello to spring.

DP088-2013. Posted, taken, and processed March 29, Good Friday.

This was the first day when temperatures were approaching normal, the sun was out, and there were actual signs of new growth to be seen. I spent about 4 hours visiting various venues and taking photos. I wanted something for today that could only be seen in early spring, and would be a little different from the predictable pictures of snowdrops, crocus, winter aconite, pussywillow, etc. (Though I did take some of those!)

If you're curious, the shadows are from a garden bench along Geddes Avenue.
Double V.
I liked the vee of the wake of the exiting mallard repeating the vee of light and shadow from the bridge.

Limned.
Snow has a way of outlining the surfaces onto which it falls. Often it renders a messy chaotic jumbled scene comprehensible. And of course, I'm inescapably attracted to geometric patterns.
I do have to wonder at the practicality or lack thereof of such a long run of outdoor stairs. Decorative, perhaps, but definitely not convenient to use, and most inconvenient if you have to clear them of snow.
