Thanks for all the comments on the weird white fungus, and especially to those who offered possible ID's. I'll let viewers decide whether they think any of them is correct. I don't feel sufficiently knowledgeable to do so.
No two hydraulically alike.
This five X five grid of water jets in the Lurie reflecting pool is a good indicator of how difficult it must be to equalize the pressure to each jet, or equalize the exit orifices, or equalize whatever other factors control the height of each jet.

Dwarf iris, the first of the season.
This is to express my joy at receiving good news about the health of my older sister, who happens to love irises.

(Technical mumbo jumbo. 1) A layer of colored pencil (purple/lilac f/b) at low opacity merged with original. 2) A layer of fresco at medium opacity, starting from the previously filtered version rather than the unfiltered original. An unframed version is here: http://smu.gs/105Awxq)
Planet 13 a) final framed
American Bandstand Planet, variation 3.
The original 8 x 4 inch reconstructed section of the inside ceiling of the gazebo was stacked with a repeat of that section to form an 8x8 inch array. A strip was added at the bottom. This intermediate file was resized, then 'polarized'. Finally, a frame was added.

The starting photo was taken July, 2008, inside the Dexter, MI, Commemorative Park bandstand, at which time it was draped in patriotic red, white, and blue bunting, hence my choice of name for this planet.
Thanks to John Bennett for the inspiration of his own much more artistic faux planets, and for providing the Photojojo link to a brief tutorial. More of my efforts along these lines can be seen here: http://arctangent.smugmug.com/Photography/Creative-Alterations/Alien-Planets/28816973_Ws5ZkF

I have posted a differently filtered version of this shot in my 2013 Spring gallery, here: http://smu.gs/Z9VWte, if this one, using heavy levels adjustments, followed by the Accented Edges filter, is not to your taste.
