Fiber optics. I wonder if anyone has ever measured the refractive index of milkweed floss, or its reflectivity. It provides endless pleasure and fascination to millions of people each autumn, to see the light shine through it and bounce from it.
I do believe that this is my favorite, but I reserve the right to change my mind. We don't have milkweed around here, but we have thistledown which, with seeds attached, is almost the same 'cept no monarch butterflies. P.S. I believe the refractive index of both is 1.33 or maybe that was dental floss.
I was honestly thinking about that last week, only instead of milkweed, I was looking at thistle. The problem was how to make dead thistle disappear into the background and capture the thistledown and seed. You figured it out, and did so beautifully. How beautiful the floss and seeds are when composed by you. Nicely done.
