The geometry of shadows.

As the sun moves across the sky, this shadow of the braces in the atrium roof takes on different aspects as it falls on the cylindrical walls of the stairwell.

(Yes, I know the shot should include the top of the roofline. It was there in the original, but I decided I'd rather have to crop it off in the course of removing some perspective distortions than leave it along with those distortions. I'll have to reshoot it some day, allowing more around the edges for such cropping.)
Pedestrian guardrail.
With snow on the ground and ice on the river, you can get some nice shadows on rare sunny days in winter.

Wave hello to spring.

DP088-2013. Posted, taken, and processed March 29, Good Friday.

This was the first day when temperatures were approaching normal, the sun was out, and there were actual signs of new growth to be seen. I spent about 4 hours visiting various venues and taking photos. I wanted something for today that could only be seen in early spring, and would be a little different from the predictable pictures of snowdrops, crocus, winter aconite, pussywillow, etc. (Though I did take some of those!)

If you're curious, the shadows are from a garden bench along Geddes Avenue.
Forest Hill Cemetery in April, when the forsythia was in bloom, but the trees weren't yet leafed out. It's a favorite place to visit at certain times of the year, largely for the sense of peace and serenity to be found there. (My gallery for the cemetery, which will give you a better sense of its attractions for a photographer and a nature lover, is here: http://arctangent.smugmug.com/Places-By-Type/American-Cemeteries/Forest-Hill-Cemetery-Ann-Arbor/19440854_PPkJD4)

A stitch of three frames, hand-held.taken about 4 pm, facing slightly east of north. Each frame exposed at f/10 and 1/500 sec, ISO 400, 22mm focal length (33 mm equivalent) using a Sony Nex-5N.

There is nothing special about the subject of the scene that warrants a shot (or set of shots). It was the light and the shadows, especially the large tree shadow coming in from the left, echoing the bare-limbed trees themselves, that appealed.

I wish I had better stitching software. The merge areas are quite apparent if you view this in the large sizes. Part of the problem is, of course, the fact that I took these hand held. But even if the camera had been mounted on a tripod and correctly leveled, there would have been stitching problems. I'd welcome suggestions for what software other people use. This was done with Canon's Photo-stitch program.
