"Angel of Death Victorious" by Herman Matzen, 1924.

Also known as the Haserot Angel, this sculpture has achieved essentially a cult status, and is almost certainly the most photographed single feature in Lake View Cemetery. On its own it draws visitors by the thousands each year. The sculpture is without question arresting and powerful as a whole, but it is probably the accident of weathering, which makes the angel seem to be weeping, that has driven its popularity. The number of photos of this sculpture available on the web probably reaches into the thousands, and the one I'm sharing here is nothing special among that multitude. But I shared the visit to the cemetery during which I took the shot with a dear sister, and this is a bit of a shout out to her, and to my other sister (also dear!) who wishes she could have seen it, too.
