Since I can't believe people would install a bent cap on one of the posts in this wrought iron gate, I'm forced to conclude that something very heavy fell on it some time in the past.

"Come into the Arb and enjoy a time of sweet serenity," this open gate is saying to me.

Nichols Arboretum, Ann Arbor, Michigan
Entrance to the Arb is typically through this postern gate. The Arb is within easy walking distance of the University of Michigan main campus, the University of Michigan Hospital campus, and surrounding residential areas that house students, faculty, and staff. It's a popular place for joggers, hikers, strollers, bird watchers, and nature lovers in general. If you read the fine print on the posted set of rules, you'll see that the hours for the Arb are 6 am to 10 pm, so after dark activities are allowed...Draw your own conclusions.

On this ultra-warm (for March) day, it was especially popular.

The main gates at the Geddes Ave. entrance are rarely open. Instead, visitors use a postern just to the right of these gates (as you face the Arb)
