arctangent > Modern high rise buildings are mixed in with the pre-20th century buildings throughout the business districts of Lima. This is a Marriott Hotel near the coast.

Miraflores, Lima, Peru
arctangent > Ephemeral and exquisite.

Bloodroot is my favorite spring wildflower. The light and shadows here are less than ideal with some of the outer petals blown out, but this shot shows the intrinsic sparkle of the petals better than my other shots, and gives a sense of the overall delicacy of the blossoms.

arctangent > Leaf in dark water. Surface tension has formed a row of small lenses around its margins which reflect the overhead sun. Duckweed and maple blossoms have collected in the depressions.

Blue light special.

Can you tell I haven't been outside the house for the past few frigid days?
arctangent > Second molt.

This is the time of year when male mallards molt back from their brief summer eclipse plumage, which is nearly indistinguishable from that of the female, into their beautiful and easily recognizable breeding plumage. The male of this pair seems to have barely begun this process, but the feathers in the water witness that it has begun.

arctangent > Bumper crop. The high bush cranberries produced a prodigous crop of berries this year. I like the way the circles of confusion in the background mimic the shape of the berries and almost seem to hang in the air like bunches of light.
arctangent > Accumulations (at the old boathouse)...

...of "stuff" on the top of the dresser.
...of grime on all the surfaces.
...of memories of all the summers past.
arctangent > Frost macro #6 - feathers of frost on a window

I took this, and it still doesn't look real, even to me. Please look at it in one of the larger sizes, and enjoy the detail, and the way the sky has reflected from certain facets in the ice crystals.

Unfortunately, I took this handheld, manual focus, and didn't have the lense parallel to the window, so the focus falls off toward the upper left of the picture. Nothing's perfect.
arctangent > Fiber optics. I wonder if anyone has ever measured the refractive index of milkweed floss, or its reflectivity. It provides endless pleasure and fascination to millions of people each autumn, to see the light shine through it and bounce from it.
