Chapungu works, attributed
Sculptures with known titles and artists.
This is one of the galleries created for my 2017-18 reorganization, re-editing, and new editing of photos from a 2008 visit to this exhibition. Until the reorganization is complete, I'll leave the old gallery in place.
'Chapungu: Nature, Man & Myth' is the title of an exhibition of 54 large stone sculptures carved by Zimbabwean artists. It was housed at the Powell Gardens, east of Kansas City, Missouri, on Hwy 50. The sculptures were distributed throughout the botanical gardens, grouped in major themes.
Other versions of the exhibition have been, and I suppose continue to be, mounted in suitable outdoor settings around the world. Not every such exhibition includes the same number of sculptures, or the same selection of them.
