Patiently Waiting . . .Waiting in Vain. Pitcher Plant Bloom
DP009-2015 Posted Friday, January 9; processed ditto
Which of us isn't fascinated by carnivorous plants of all kinds? This is one of the larger, more colorful varieties of pitcher plant that was growing in the room devoted to various kinds of carnivorous plants. Unfortunately, I neglected to photograph the identifying marker for it. Just enjoy it for its exotic shape, coloring, textures, and it's strange feeding habits.
I don't know whether the caretakers of these plants feed them live insects, or just let the blooms starve. I do know that it's highly unlikely there are enough flying insects allowed to live in the room to satisfy their hunger. I deliberately chose a view that showed only part of the pitcher and colorful ribbed lip, just because I thought it had the most visual appeal. I wasn't aiming for a shot that would allow identification.
