2018 Alphabet Challenge: C - Cross at Clonmacnoise
2018 alphabet challenge
C - Cross at Clonmacnoise, or Cluain Mhic Nóis (entry for June 17, 2018)
Cross of the Scriptures (replica). Considered to be an outstanding example of religious (Christian) art of the period.
The original is housed out of the weather in the Interpretive Center, and dates to ca. 900 A.D.
This might also be a Celtic cross, but I'm not 100% sure of that. In any case, the cross fits both of my chosen categories for this current challenge, namely art and archaeology.
Taken August 17, 2007; edited 2018

Even though I made this trip more than a decade ago, these are the first photos from this location I have shared on smugmug.
Other photos to which I have given starter comments are collected here, to make them easier to find: https://arctangent.smugmug.com/ExploreSampleSavorEnjoy/What-I-and-other-viewers-like/Starting-conversations/
