Honeysuckle fruit. The fruit qualifies as a berry both in the common and the scientific usages of the term. For those among you who are curious, strawberries, raspberries, and mulberries are not true berries in the scientfic sense of the term, but tomatoes, eggplants, and chili peppers are! Fun fact for the day.

This photo is offered in conjunction with Janet McQueen's post a few days ago of some yellow fruit that she wondered might be honeysuckle berries. I'd say, apart from the color, her fruit and mine are very much alike.
My shot is, I believe, of the alien, invasive Amur or asian bush honeysuckle. It's berries are mildly poisonous to humans, causing severe gastric and intestinal distress. There are honeysuckle species that are native to North America, Honeysuckle berries show a progression of colors as they ripen, passing through shades of yellow and orange on their way to red, or simply stopping at orange.
